A Delicious Dinner

Meal: dinner (Sat 9/18)
From: my fridge
Cost: indeterminable, from the same allotment of groceries my girlfriend selected and I paid for.
Location: my kitchen

My girlfriend decided to try something new so she tried her hand at a French dish, 'coq au vin', she read about. Basically it is chicken cooked in a wine sauce with carrots, onions, and mushrooms. To complete the meal she made some jasmine rice and pork with tofu rounds.

Coq Au Vin (chicken with wine) [French], jasmine rice, pork with tofu rounds [Korean].

Taste: I don't know how to describe the chicken other than F**KING awesome!

Dessert: apple pie with butter pecan ice cream.

My girlfriend decided to go all out and make an apple pie from scratch.

Homemade Apple Pie

The Dessert

Taste: the apple pie was amazing as well.

Drink: ice water

Conclusion: AMAZING!

Lazy Dinner and the Yankees WIN!

Meal: dinner (Tue 9/14)
From: my fridge
Cost: $0 [I hope this keeps up!]
Location: my kitchen

After eating my protein bar I decided to look around in my fridge for dinner options. I found some Chinese vegetable. There was a big bag full of them. I have no idea how long they were in the fridge, but a lot of them had turned yellow and looked potentially inedible. After discarding the cleared inedible pieces I washed and boiled the rest.
The non-yellow pieces came out looking pretty decent.

I found a raw chicken thigh and decided to lather it up with sweet chilli sauce and throw it in the oven. I figured since the chicken would probably take a long time to cook I should take my vegetables with me and see what was on TV. Lucky for me the Yankees-Rays game was still on, tied 7-7 in the 7th inning. I poured some oyster sauce on the vegetables and ate them. While waiting for my chicken to cook I watched the game continue into the 9th inning and still tied.

The chicken came out great, I love that sweet chilli sauce.

As I started eating the chicken I saw the Yankees take the lead in the 10th inning with a pinch hit home run. By the time I had finished my chicken the Yankees had won with an impressive game ending throw out at 3rd base of one of baseball's fastest players.

Taste: the vegetables with the oyster sauce was delicious and the chicken with sweet chilli sauce was even better.
Conclusion: the protein bar I ate earlier in the evening was only 200 calories but was pretty filling, so the stack of vegetables and one piece of chicken was enough for me.

Drink: a can of Coke Zero with ice (no need to worry I recycle all my cans). (Do you know why aluminum recycling is awesome for the environment? If not read THIS)

KFC/Taco Bell

Meal: lunch (Mon 9/6)
From: Taco Bell/KFC
Cost: less than $10 for two
Location: Queens

Taco Bell
I ate a little too fast because I was starving and I had not eaten breakfast. So unfortunately there is no picture of the "Chicken Flatbread Sandwich." It was not that good anyway, just a piece of flat bread with chicken, cheese, and some kind of ranch tasting sauce. Here are the other things I got from Taco Bell:

1/2 lb. Nacho Crunch Burrito
It was definitely weird tasting, it has some kind of red nachos mixed in with the meat. It was filling enough though.

Caramel Apple Empanada

Basically a caramel apple pie, it was pretty delicious, and for $0.99 (before tax) I normally get one when I go to Taco Bell.

KFC
My girlfriend got one of those box meals from KFC ($5 before tax). It came with a drink (free refills) some Potato Wedges and 3 large Chicken Strips. We were both hungry so there are no pictures of the Chicken Strips, but they were pretty good, made from better parts of the chicken.

Potato Wedges

Taste: unhealthily delicious
Conclusion: a cheap quick meal, that did the job.

Drink: soda with free refills (Diet Pepsi with lots of ice).

Dinner Made of Random Stuff

So I got back from the gym and rummage through the fridge looking for something to satisfy my hunger, this is what I came up with...

Meal: dinner (Thu 9/2)
From: my fridge
Cost: FREE (for me)!
Location: my kitchen

I found some of this sauce, which I thought would go good with the two piece of chicken I found.

Fried up the chicken with the sauce, and the sauce ended up all caramelized, it was surprisingly good.

So I found some frozen Chinese sweet potato pie...

So I fried up the Chinese sweet potato pie... it was really just a scallion pancake with sweet potato instead of scallions.

I also had some corn on the cob and some pieces of unidentified Chinese pancakes, I think one of them was radish, not sure about the other ones.

I also had some canned spinach with mozzarella cheese and butter.

Taste: the Chicken was pretty good, the pancakes (or pies as the packaging referrers to them as) were okay but the filling was weird, I need to look for scallion pancakes next time. The corn and spinach were as expected.
Conclusion: I was not hungry anymore, although I have a feeling my stomach is not going to feel so great later.

Drink: several large glasses of ice water.
